Got home to discover that my little robot vacuum had eaten a cord, wrapped it around an end table, and used it to pull the whole table over. Who decided to make these things so strong?

I did have to change how posts are stored to get image support. Instead of a single file with one post per line, each post is now a directory that contains a file with the post text and files for each image. Less simple but I'm still pretty happy with it.

I'm calling the "do something when you get an email" script "biffd," like the old "biff" utility that would beep all your terminals when you got local mail. The anecdote about the dog named Biff that would bark at the mailman to let students at Berkeley know mail had arrived is too perfect to not use here.
Jan 28, 2024I love the simplicity of this. It's one perl script listening for emails and writing their subjects to a file, and another perl script scanning through the file to render them into pages of posts. Any email client is a microblogging interface now
